    Biden Calls Shop Owner ‘Smartass’

Oh, Joe, you have a way with words.

While walking into a frozen custard shop looking for ice cream, Joe Biden used a colorful metaphor to describe the shop owner when he said the vice president didn’t owe him anything for the custard if he just lowered taxes.

    The metaphor? Smartass.

Yes, while at a fundraiser for Democratic U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold on Friday in Milwaukee, Wis., Biden decided to see how the peasants were doing and went to Kopp’s Frozen Custard in Glendale, reported FOX News

    .

But instead of getting his ice cream, Biden decided to serve some frozen custard to customers. When he got his frozen custard and asked how much he owed, that’s when the famous gaffe started.

“Don’t worry, it’s on us. Lower our taxes and we’ll call it (the custard) even,” the manager replied.

“Why don’t you say something nice instead of being a smartass all the time?” Biden said.

Really classy coming from the number two man running the country. He couldn’t have said, “We’re working on it” or “I’m going to do it.” No, instead his first and only option is to insult the guy in front of his own customers and on television.

Republicans, however, are rightly acting like Christmas came early this and Democrats are wishing Dick Cheney said it. Of course, had the former Republican vice president said that to a business owner, it would be called “The Insult Heard From Around The World,” with the media giving it a bit more coverage.

But Biden had the good common sense to do damage control as he whispered “just kidding” to the manager a few minutes later, but the manager could tell the VP was not happy with his comment.

Now this isn’t the first time Biden has put his foot in his mouth. He famously called his future boss while on the 2008 presidential campaign trail “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”

It’s important to note that President Obama did not ask Biden for his resignation, as was the case with Gen. Stanley McCrystal.

Apparently, you and your staff are not allowed to trash the president to the press, but you are allowed to bad mouth the people you serve on national television.
