Do you know what burns my bacon? People taking part in Quit Facebook Day because some users of the popular social network had their information sold to third parties by the company.
That’s right because Facebook had a few features that accessed some people’s personal information and shared it with other Web sites these people are having a hissy fit and decide to quit Facebook, reported The Hindustan Times
The Hindustan Times Article.
Right, because people have another addicting social media Web site they can go so they can post drunken pictures of themselves for the world to see.
Sure, Facebook isn’t really going to be losing any sleep over this because about 25,157 allegedly dedicated themselves to deactivate their accounts today over the privacy issues, reported pcmag.com
pcmag.com Article.
And that number is pretty small peanuts compared to the huge number of members who many feel they need to tell the world what they’re doing that very second.
OK, so Facebook has privacy issues greater than Jesse James’ but who is really at fault here? Did the Paris Hilton sex tape teach us anything? Everything about you can go on the Web and if you decide to put personal information on it then you’re screwed.
Because nothing is secure over the Internet. Nothing at all. Your birthday? Your name? That picture you took of yourself the night after a friend’s party, and you’re all wasted, blood-shot eyes and dried vomit in your hair and you lied to your boss and called out sick? It’s all easy access.
Every dirty little secret, or clean one, will eventually find its way into the World Wide Web and once it’s out there, there’s no way you can put the genie back in the bottle.
The rule of using the Internet is simple: Don’t put anything on there that you wouldn’t tell or show a stranger.
Of course, Facebook needs to get a handle on its privacy issues. After all, I don’t want other Web sites knowing that my bank security code is 1-2-3-4.
